DNSDNS is an acronym for Domain Name System, a distributed directory of domain names and IP addresses. This distributed directory is implemented by special Internet servers called nameservers. A domain name (for example,domain.com) is simply a pointer to an IP address,
the unique number that identifies the location of a server connected to
the Internet. Your Virtual Server has a unique IP address. Domain names
are also unique and must be registered with an accredited registrar. It
is likely that you already have a domain, or you will want to register a
new one, to identify your Virtual Server.
Registering a New Domain NameIf your domain name is not already registered, we provide discounted Domain Registration Services for.com, .net, and .org domain names.
We cannot help you register any domain name that is not a
.com, .net, or .org domain. You
will need to take care of the registration yourself. See our
Domain Name Registration Guidelines, for
step-by-step instructions.
Transferring an Existing Domain NameYou may already have a domain name that is currently being hosted by another provider that you wish to use instead with your Virtual Server. Our Domain Name Transfer Guidelines have information that will help you seamlessly transfer the domain name from your current hosting provider to your Virtual Server.
